Hello,

I am running: WinXP-Pro, Ver 2002 OSVer: 5.0.2600,
SP2 (55274-OEM-0011903-00102)
3GHz 1GB-RAM. IE Ver: 6.02900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

I keep getting a script error when trying to instal my Anti-Virus product.

First incident was trying to download VScan from McAfee website - Page
Cannot be Displayed- IE-created the following scirpt error:

Error: registering the OCX C:\Windows\System32\vbscript.dll

Second incident was trying to install new McAfee VScan product from floppy:

Error: Line43, Char:1, Error: Object expected, Code:0, Url:
mcp://D:\Vsc\Enu\vsoins.ui::default.htm

I have Dwnlded + installed McAfee ActiveX,
dwnldld+run scipten.exe from MS
dwnldld+run IERegFix.bat from MS

-changed IE settings to enable all ActiveX components, including scripting,
IE is set as my default browser, pop-ups are disabled, no malware, no prioir
conflicting programs, no virus, but still got the same 2 above errors.

After following instructions on MS KB article id: 326155, this is what i know:

1) I cannot run the Network Diagnostics Tool -Help and Support cannot disply
page... something about network congestion..., error in page address..., not
avaiable.

2) I cannot repair any of my 3(?) firewalled network connections
3) I can connect to the Internet in Safe Mode
4) I cannot register the following IE DLLs:

msjava.dll, setupwbv.dll (failed cannot be found)
wininet.dll (entry point not found)
vbscript.dll (failed return code: OX 80004005)
mshta.exe, comctl32.dll, digest.dll, setupwbv.dll, msnsspc.dll (loaded but
DLRegister Server entry point not found, cannot be registered)

I don't know what to do. I only want to have virus removal software again.
Can anybody help?

The errors are most likely caused by wrong registry permissions. Try
installing the software / registering the DLLs from the built-in
Administrator account. If that does not help, fix the Permissions using the
Batch file here.

Ramesh Srinivasan's Blog: Reset the entire registry permissions to defaults:
