I use XP and when I started up my machine today...I found a empty "no name"
folder on the desktop. I keep a 'clean' desktop and do not put icons on the
desktop....so this was (is) very very strange to me.

I tried to delete it and it would not go away. I tried holding the
ctrl+delete and it would not go away. I tried going into safemode+delete and
it still would not go away. It is there. Normally you can not create a 'no
name' folder on the desktop, in the first place, so I have no idea how it
even was created!

I have been using dos,win 3.1,win 98se,wn 2000 and for many years XP....but
this has me confused. Can anyone help?!?

Here is an old response of mine for Win9x
It should still be valid in XP.

It may be a NameSpace item.
If so remove it from the Registry using Regedit.
It should appear under the key: (along with the Recycle Bin, Inbox
etc.)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

It is good practice to export any key before deletion in case of
error.

Don't delete this one. It is the Recycle Bin.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

Alen,

I looked into your tip, but it did not work for me. Your tip was more for
"icons" than removing problematic/un named folders.

Thanks for the help.

I have found others, online, with this same problem and it seems to be a
little know XP bug.....but no advice that has proven to be fruitful thus far.
