Can't get hidden slides to work

I have a really OLD version of Powerpoint (Microsoft Office for Windows
95) which I run on my PC with Windows XP.

I am just learning Powerpoint from a read-through book and can't get
"hiding slides" to work. Once I activate it and then go through slide
show it still shows the slide.

Any suggestions to get it to work?

If you mean that you go through the slide show in edit mode, then yes, it will.
Hiding slides only applies to slide show view.

If at all possible, find a copy of a later version, ANY later version of
PowerPoint and use it instead.
