Can't get Guest to Connect to ISP through Host

I have two PC's, host (PC#1) and guest (PC#2), both running WinXPSP2. They
are connected by a crossover cable LAN. Originally, guest was a Win98SE,
and the setup worked fine. Replaced the 98 with the XP, and I can't get it
to connect to the ISP through the LAN and the host. By now, I have
probably screwed up every possible setting. But here is where we are:

Host - by disabling LAN, I can connect with ISP no problem.
Guest - no matter what I have tried, I can not get the ISP to connect from
the guest (yes, I enabled the LAN :<) Sometimes, when I create a new
connection, it comes up in the form " name of the ISP" followed by the words
"through HOST" - the second phrase in quotes I did not put in the name of
the connection when I created it Also, sometimes an ICS link appears as a
network connection, which, among other things, does not want to deleted.

I've used the wizards 'til I'm blue in the face, no joy. BTW, I don't
really see how to end the do-wizards-on-both-machines drill, you can just
keep going around forever. I've also done the

What to do?
Thx in advance

Progress (well, sort of) Report

Stumbled on Steve Winograd's superbly excellent series on Internet Sharing
(www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/serverwiz.htm All seems to be
working except, ironically, the segment covered in 'XP ICS Internet Gateway'

The instructions are, on a client running XP, Open Network Connections, and
disable the server's Internet connection. Then click Properties to
configure the Gateway, then click Settings. When I do, I get the message
"ICS computer is not configured to let network users control or disable the
shared Internet Connection. This setting can be changed in the Advanced
Properties of the shared connection on the Internet Connection Sharing
computer"

When I got to the 'Sharing Computer' - (I hope that means the host). the
connections is already shared.

Just go round and round after that.

What to do? Been at this for days

All suggestions appreciated
