Can't Find Operating System...

2 things:


(1) I am running Windows XP Home version on a Sony Vaio
laptop (256mb RAM, 20 GB hard drive). Recently my
computer, when left on for a few hours, crashes (screen
goes black). On the screen I get a floating
message: "Cannot find operating system". I am forced to
re-boot. Any thoughts, anyone?

(2) Also, just today I got a new message (after re-
booting per my #1 above): kernel_stack_inpage_error.

Can anyone tell me what might be going on?
