Can't erase a CDRW

I can't erase a CDRW from Windows Explorer. After about
10 seconds of 'erasing', the PC locks up completely witrh
the hard drive light on permanently. Ctrl Alt Del has no
effect at all. There is no problem writing a CD.

This used to work a few months ago, and no HW has
changed. Any ideas would be very welcome!
 
Use third party software. NTI CD Maker, Nero, Roxio, etc....
