cannot erase cdrw disc using xp cd writing wizard or windows media

I am not trying to erase individual files, I am trying to erase the cdrw
totally in order to write to it again. The xp "erase this cdrw" brings up the
cd writing wizard dialogue box, and it goes through the motions and says it
has erased the cdrw, but when you go back to the cdrw, the songs or
powerpoint presentation are still there, and I cannot write to the cdrw
because there are these read only files still on them. I can't change these
files from read only, "access is denied". Details from the drive says Free
Space is 0 bytes, and Total Size is 0 bytes, but the songs or powerpoint file
can be played no problem

Window Media 10 also goes through the motions and says it has erased the
disc, but it hasn't.

Any thoughts anyone why it won't erase the cdrw?!

Thanks.

After erasing, did you eject the disk, right click in My Computer? This
may be needed to complete the process.

When the erasing does occur, the icons pop back up as being present within a
second or two of erasing. I doubt it actually erases the disc. I'm not sure
what you mean when you refer to right clicking on My Computer.

R click *on* the drive *in* My Computer

Erasure is just erasing the basic start sectors so the disk looks empty.
But may need to go through that eject to be completed
