Can't edit because of an embedded font

I've read all the messages listed here and none of the work arounds
have worked for me. The Save As feature is not an option. Don't have
another version of the program. Don't have CorelDraw. Tried to open
as a webpage in IE while offline. Replacing the fonts, didn't seem to
work either. We just got the SP1 installed so installing the SP2 is
not an option, corporate thing.

Any other out there suggestions?

Please go to Format|Replace Fonts. What font is missing? (It will show up
with a ? beside its name, unless it's Arial Black, and then it will probably
not show a question mark.)

Change the font (? Courier) with Times Roman. Still nothing. Not able
to Save As, copy or send to.

Installing SP2's supposed to fix the problem, so you could say it's all the IT
department's fault. "Here guys. YOU fix it since you won't let ME fix it."

Won't fly, huh? Ah well. Dreaming's fun and harmless.

Do you have a colleage with an older version of PPT? They could do the replace
fonts for you. Or can you install the needed font? Or get whoever sent the
presentation to do the replace fonts drill and substitute a font you *do* have.

Well, it's helpful to know what font's causing the problem, anyway. Can you
get the author of the presentation to replace courier with Times New Roman
and resend the file to you?

I'm not sure if you can download Courier font free. I'm actually very
surprised it's not already installed on your system, though. I mean, it's a
really basic, extremely common font.

Courier New is. Courier isn't that common on PCs, other than as a .FON bitmap
font, but PPT should't let you use that. Otherwise it'd be a Type1/PS font.

Yeah, it is the Courier font with the question mark beside it. But
when I tried to replace with another font, it still wouldn't let me
edit. I have Courier New. It is amazing that one silly little font
can hold the whole show up. This time we were able to get the original
author to "fix" it but that's not always the case and to be forced to
recreate the whole thing is such a drag. I am surprised that none of
the work-arounds worked for me. IT is looking into the matter so they
should come up with something sooner or later! But you are right, SP2
is outa the question for now, we just got the SP1. Still dreaming.....

Well, I'll repeat it again, this site is the most useful of all sites I
access. Congrats!

This morning, a user sent me a presentation that would not open for the
exact same reason. So I read "Sendittojean"'s question and found my answer.
Since my IT department refuses to install SP2, I opened the presentation on
my own personal computer and voilà! It worked!!!! When I opened the file, I
got the message informing me that an embedded font was being used and would I
like to replace it? I replied "yes" and the result was exactly what I was
looking for.
