can't download template - excel closes

I am trying to download a template from the Microsoft website. Every Excel
template I try, results in an error message that says excel has encountered
an error and must close. I can, however, open excel normally without
problems. I am running Excel 2000. I have cookies and pop-ups enabled.

Any ideas?

Just found a work around

Download the template, then take a look in your Temp folder(C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\...the template should be in one of the
folders there. You can do a search for files created today with extension
*.xlt

I also have the same problem. Upon downloading Excel templates for Excel
2000 (only trying templates for 2000 or earlier), I receive an error that the
application must close. Word templates downloads work just fine. I have run
"detect and repair", verified acceptance of cookies from microsoft.com and
ActiveX activity to no avail. Previous posts mention searching *.xlt, which
DID work. What settings do I need to adjust so can I get program to run
without need for workaround?
