Lisa

I recently had a new hd installed and have to reinstall programs. Have
Windows XP home 2002 with computer that has adequate memory speed to
download. I set Internet explorer to default settings as suggested on the
Adobe website. I'm the administrator and only user of this computer I have
checked and rechecked security settings and repeatedly get this error
message: c:\document~1\owner\locals~1\Temp\AdobeReader8____Setup.exe.
Windows cannot access specifed device path or file. You may not have
appropriate permissions to access. THIS IS SOOOO AGGRAVATING!!!
What is the Problem ????

Lisa,

Is the firewall or virus software stopping you from executing exe files from the TEMP
folder. I know McCrappy (McAfee to you) has this setting

Secondly: START | RUN | Type %temp%

Find the file in question & copy it to Desktop to execute it

Another way to get the redistributable is on the Adobe site

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html

and download it that way

That's no big loss. Get the Foxit reader. Smaller, faster, and won't bother
your system or try to contact the mother ship every hour.

I agree. Adobe has gone gaga with its products. Forget them.
Foxit works well.
