When I try to dial in to my new pc (windows xp on an NT network) and later look at the event log on the host, I get the messag
The user GSBNT\username failed an authentication attempt due to the following reason: The current configuration of the Internet Authentication Service (IAS) Server only supports local user accounts (event 20187)

With my old pc (windows NT on an NT network) I never had any problems

How do I fix this

It sounds like you are trying to use Windows XP as a RAS server.. In
this mode, you can only log on with local user accounts, not domain
accounts.... Therefore, if you want to use Windows XP as a RAS
machine, you will need to set up a local computer account for
connection. You can do this with by running COMPMGMT.MSC from the
Start=>Run menu or the User Accounts applet in the control panel.

Jeffrey,
I have a local account that is specific to this machine on the NT network, and am an administrator on the machine, but not on the domain. The passwords and usernames for the nt and novell are the same. Do you mean setting up an account separate from these?

Perhaps I should enplain-
Previously, I had a pc at work with win nt, running on an nt network. On my win 95 pc from home using the dialup networking with the username and password set up I could dial one number and get directly on to a server, or I could dial my number and get to my pc. After the modem connected I would get two additional log on prompts, one for nt, I think, and one for the novell. If I wanted access to the network drives, I would do the additional log ons, if I just wanted internet access I could just cancel out of the two additional logons and still be connected. When I got my new pc, I took the modem out of the old one and put it in the new one and set things up for remote access. At this point, I can still log on to the server from home, but when I try to log on to my pc, I get connected, but then get two prompts to log on to the nt, if I go through with the log ons I get disconnected, and if I blow both of them off, I get disconnected. I don't think that my used rights have changed, so I'm not sure why I can't connect any more.
Any Ideas?

The main problem is that you were authenticating with a domain
username, not the local.. Specify the username as
COMPUTERNAME\USERNAME to force use of the local account.
