Can't delete old windows directory

I installed XP to c:\windows on a computer that had 2000
installed in c:\winnt. Then I reinstalled XP to c:\winnt.
I boot to the c:\winnt installation (windir=c:\winnt) but
I can't delete c:\windows even in safe mode. If I type
del c:\windows, I get "Access is denied" on set3.tmp and
set7.tmp. Any ideas on how I can delete the c:\windows
directory?

First of all I fail to see why you installed to c:\Windows in the first
place if you were just going to reinstall to c:\winnt imediately afterwards.
Seems like a silly thing to do. It sounds like it is still using files from
the c:\Windows directory when it starts up.

It wouldn't be silly if something had failed and he need to try to
"downgrade" back to 2000 ... Just a thought ...
