Cant delete message from outbox

I have a very large message that I cant send and its sitting in my outbox. I
tried switching to offline mode and deleting it--no luck. All other programs
are closed and I was getting a error message saying another program closed
unexpectedly while using outlook files--to prevent damage to your folders you
are not able to access this file until all programs accessing it are
closed--something to that extent

Thanks.........still not sure what the trouble was. Apparently the user had
literally several years of past appointments still in her calendar. She was
eventually able to delete them, and the problem appears to have resolved.
