Can't delete item from destktop

Using vista 64 and I have a folder that contains another folder with a small
file inside. Vista will NOT allow me to delete the folder from the desktop.
I have tried everything that I know to do:

1. I tried to delete from the command prompt.
2. I tried renaming to folder.
3. Downloaded a "unlocker" program as suggested in other posts, doesn't work
on 64 bit.

This is driving me nuts....Any suggests would be greatly appricated.

I was able to take ownership but this did not allow me to delete the file.

The error states:

"could not find this item" this is no longer located in C:......Verify
location and try again.

Thanks.....

Thanks...but I already tried that. It gives me the same error message for
each file and folder.

I tried in safe mode as I thought that maybe another program had assocated
itself with the file, no luck.

Thanks Again.....

I hadn't tried to take ownership of the specific file just the folder, so I
tried that through the command prompt like I did the folder. It gives me the
ERROR: Invalid argument/option .....

This particular file in the folder must be the problem......

Thanks
