In trying to copy some data base files from a CD to my computer I have
created a monster. The copied files ended up in the MY Documents folder. I
tried to delete them but they kept copying themselves over and over again
until I now have 3,000 files in the MY DOCUMENTS folder which I do not want.
I am clicking the file with my mouse and then choosing the "Delete this file"
link which appears on the left of my files. When I select "yes" to send them
to the recycle bin, many more files appear as copies. some files have been
copied hundreds of times and I can't seem to delete them without more
appearing.

You are holding it down too long. Left click the first one, scroll down to
the last one, hold down the Shift key then left click once. Once done,
right click, delete.
