can't delete file

R

Ron

tried to back up a few files on to a CD. Xp created a
folder to store the files till they are burned. the
backup acted up and I canceled the session. 1 file is in
hte folder, but can't be opened and no right click menu.
It doesn't exist but it is there. every time I boot up I
am told it is waiting to be written. Can't write it can't
burn it. If I put a new blank disk in hte drive, it is
there and I can';t burn anything.
I hope someone knows where that phanthom file and folder
exist, adn how to get rid of it. Tried overwriting it,no
way.
is it in the registry soemwhere?
Thank for you help,
Ron

Open "My Computer".
Left click on "Folders".
In the left pane, left click on your CD drive.
Click on "Folders" again.

What do you see under "CD Writing Tasks"?
I hope that you see "Delete temporary files" or something like that.

I went back to the drive in my computer, and right
clicked. on the recording tab I unchecked "enable
recording on this drive" which I understand means drag
and drop. Bingo, no more alert, and I can still burn
with third party software. the problem is still there,
you just can't see it. thanks guys.

May be in the registry under

cu/software/microsoft/windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/

try cleaning the data out of recent files (except) MRUlist - open by
hilighting and pressing enter, then backspace, then enter. The same
will go for MRUlistex, except you use the delete key to remove the
binary data from these. Do NOT delete the MRUList(ex) keys themselves.
Repeating, remove data on the right hand side of the key entry. This
will be id'd as a, b, c or 1,2,3 and so on -- only the letters or
numbers. THen open and clean out the MRUList(ex). Also open "my
computer" and go to C:\Documents and settings\<username>\recent files\
and clean this out. It contains shortcuts to recently opened documents
(or jobs).

The reg keys to clean out are ComDlg32, CopyMoveTo, Recent Documents,
RunMRU, StreamMRU.

It sounds complicated at first, but once done 2 to 3 times, you get
used to it.
