I have some files on my win98 fat32 drive. some are 0K one
is 18K. They all have very long files names and two of the
three have lots of none letter characters. If i delete them
to the recycle bin then the hole directory could not be
removed. I restored and then found that just these 3 files
gave the following error when i try to delete them.

Cannot delete the file: File system error (1026)

I have run scandisk and defraged and it finds no problems.
Can i do anything from DOS or safe mode.

TIA

I guess i found a way, even though it said the MS-DOS file
name was unknown, if you gave the command to delete the file
by it msdos name at a dos prompt it would delete it.

Glad to be able to remove the directory as these files were
about ten deep and just made a mess.
