I'm running MS Outlook 2002 under Windows XP. When I try to delete emails in
my Inbox, there is one (spam) email that won't delete - I keep on getting an
error message telling me that errors have been detected in my Inbox and to
run the repair tool. I have done this but it has made no difference. Apart
from this isolated instance, everything else is ok. Any ideas?

Try setting Outlook to offline mode, wait a while, close Outlook, wait, open
Outlook see if it will now delete

Thanks for the advice, DL. I tried what you suggest but, unfortunately, I'm
no further forward

If you hold the Shift key when you try can you delete it?

Thanks, Brian. That did the trick! Can you explain why Shift + Delete works
when Delete by itself doesn't?

Holding Shift while pressing Delete is a permanent delete and bypasses the
Deletd Items folder. Have you emptied your Deleted Items folder? How large
is your PST?

I empty my Deleted Items folder on a regular basis - even when it was empty I
was having the problem. My PST file is 300Mb

Have you used the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) on the PST yet? If that
didn't help, I'd create a new PST and start using it. If you do, it's easy
enough to transfer the data from the old PST, if you wish.
