Can't delete e-mail headers already downloaded from the server

I don't know how it happened, but for some reason I can't always retrieve my
email the 'normal' way. So as a workaround, I download the headers first,
mark them for download then process them.

I deleted some headers that I didn't want to download. Somehow, all my mail
got downloaded except for the headers I deleted. When I went to look on the
server, the mail file was empty. So the mail must have got downloaded some
other way. I did notice that I sometimes get one or more copies of the same
mail.

Now I can't get rid of the headers. They are listed in my inbox with a
strikeout through them.

How do I get rid of them?

Which version of outlook and what type of account? Will remote mail work on
it?
