Can't Delete Duplicate Personal Folders in Outlook 2003

I am using Outlook 2003. I have imported my outlook .pst files from an older
version. For some reason I have two problems:

1: There are now three different Personal Folders displayed in the column to
the left. I have tried completely uninstalling Outlook and the entire Office
suite, then reinstalling. They are still there. The properties tab shows they
are all accessing the same Outlook1.pst file.

2: The Contacts folder is in one of the duplicate Personal Folders and I
keep getting an error that says the file isn't available. When you look in
the contacts folder it says there are three Contacts as well. I can't imagine
where Outlook is keeping this information. How do you get rid of these damn
things? I'd be willing to completely reinstall Outlook but that seems to do
no good.

Try creating a new profile via the Mail icon in Control Panel and start
Outlook with that profile. Reconfigure Outlook then open your old PST and
copy the items to the new PST.

Brian/Bill - you just saved me reformatting - I had no idea how to get rid of
the corrupt profile I created. Much thanks.
:-))

You now have a corrupt Outlook profile. Make sure you know which data file
is your default and contains all your data. Then create a new profile and
connect it to that data file.

This morning I am receiving mail into two of the folders. What is the
profile and where do I find it to change it. Then how do I change it?

I couldn't open Outlook this morning and followed the advice to run scanpst
which fixed that problem, now I have two complete folders that are
identical
in every way. And yet a third where mail is coming in.

Help.

1. mail folder
2. mail folder duplicate
3. personal folder where mail is coming into

I have OUtlook 2000. Does that matter?

Also, since each of these folders is over 2,000,000 kbs having one would be
a big saving, but which one do I delete?

Then why did you post in a thread about Outlook 2003? It matters greatly.
How much it matters depends on which mail support mode of Outlook 2000 you
are using. If Corp/Workgroup, then you can still create a new profile. If
Internet Mail Only, then you can't and will have to live with your current
profile.

Because when I typed in my question I didn't realize the topic included 2003.

I have Outlook, not set up for work group.

IMO does not use profiles. The only way to create a new profile in IMO is
with a reg hack.
You'll need to get the PST files well under 2G before you do anything else.

I went in and deleted whole folders. Some mail i have to keep. I deleted
attachments etc. I don't understand why it is so big. I have another
computer running Outlook and I have never had problems with it and the mail
box was open for years. Is still open, and still receives mail for my
business. This Outlook folder was started in May. What made it fill up so
quickly?

No way for us to tell. You can though. Properties > Folder Size... will show
you the size of each folder in the file so you can see what ate up your
space.
