Can't d/l anything except web pages and pictures

For some reason, I am unable to download anything apart
from pictures and web pages (as far as I know). I know
the files are there, and I can download them with
GetRight, but when I try to use IE, I get:
"Internet Explorer cannot download ... from ...

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet
site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot
be found. Please try again later"

The only thing I can think of as being the cause was
uninstalling FTP Voyager. However, I am not 100% sure,
and I don't know how to fix it.

Can anyone help me?
