Can't create shortcut to subst drive.

MDodd

I am running Windows XP with all patches applied. I have
a drive that is substituted to a network path with the
following command:
subst H: \\server\directory\%username%

I can open the drive in My Computer and see all of my
files. When I create a shortcut on my desktop to this
drive and doubleclick on the shortcut, it cannot find the
drive. It gives me a browse or cancel option. If I
click browse, I can see it but cannot select the root of
the drive. I can only view directories under the drive.
This worked fine in Windows 2000 but I can not get it to
work in XP. Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thanks for the help.

YES:

Follow to directions so as to MAP the network drive
\\server\directory\%username% to H:, using Windows Explorer. I know that
XP has several DOS commands (yes "subst" is DOS) that behave differently.
