i have noticed recently the following error:

can't create service

once when installing quicktime/itunes and another when re-installing
ghost 8

comments/suggestions welcome

That message likely comes from the software installer, therefore it is a
question for Apple or Symantec.

Were you logged under an account with administrator privileges? Were you
logged on under the actual Administrator account? What happens when you
try?
