Can't create new user. XP Pro.

There already are a couple user accounts on this PC, and these accounts are
working OK.

A while ago I removed all inherited folder permissions from Shared Documents
folder and replaced them with <non-inherited> permissions sufficient for the
existing users.

Now when I try to create a new user, a user is created, but this new user
can not log in. The error message is: "Can't find the profile, contact
network admin.." or along these lines.

I noticed that after the new user is created, no folder for the new user's
Documents is created in:
C:\Documents and Settings

Please help.

Why would you do that? Reset the permissions back to the default. If you
can't remember what you did or resetting doesn't help (don't forget to
reboot), then do a System Restore to before you got creative.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
"Restore my computer to an earlier time"

There will be no folders created for a new user until the user has logged in
once, so that is why you don't see any.

Thanks for clarifying re: the new user's My Docs folder.

Any other way to solve the puzzle? You see, I changed the permissions a
while ago so not sure where system restore would take me. Also, I did not
experience many issues apart from this one.

Again, many thanks for replying!

You said you removed inherited permissions. Put them back.

Malke,

Just fixed the problem. I remembered that as part of my "going creative"
project :) I also "reviewed" permissions on 'Program Files' folder.

Ticking on <inherit permissions> box did the trick.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. A good place to learn about permissions is
Microsoft's TechNet. Another good thing to do if you are going to tinker is
to get an imaging program like Acronis True Image. Image before you tinker
and then you'll be able to restore if you made a wrong choice.
