Can't create additional dial-up connection

Garry Heaton

My Windows XP Pro machine has a Local Area Connection to a router for
broadband internet access but it won't allow me to create an additional
dial-up connection which I also need. With Admin level privileges I can only
get as far as:

Create a New Connection > Connect to the Internet > Setup my connection manually

.... but then the option I need - Connect Using a Dial-up Modem - is
greyed-out. The only option is:

Connect using a broadband connection that is always on.

What to do?

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\25
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\26

Right click on the 25 and 26 subkeys and select Delete. If you wish to make
a backup, just in case, right click the 25 and 26 subkeys and select Export
first. This will create a REG file that can be re-imported by double
clicking on it.

Hi Garry,

In addition:

Dial-Up Modem or PPPoE is Unavailable (Line 87)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
