can't copy files from newly added workstation - "path too deep"

Hi,
after solving other problems by fresh new copy of W2000
Workstation, I can' copy files to other computers on that
domain - after a few moments the Explorer is not
responding - then error message - "Can't copy - path is
too deep (no matter if it is a tree of dir or files only,
or if it to NT4, XP or 98). Copying files to this newly
added workstation is fine.

Would very much appreciate any suggestion..

Thanks

David

Sounds like your path may be too deep. There is a limit to how long a path
can be, something like 255 chars. Some work arounds can be to map a drive on
the remote system or use SUBST if the drive is local, or to use generated
short filenames (for instance, MYDOCU~1 for My Documents). Or, pull files
from the target systems, if that is an option.

A corner case can be problems that chkdsk should fix, such as crosslinked
files.

If those don't do it, copy and paste a command line into your reply.

Thanks a lot for reply!
I have installed new copy of Windows2000 (includin
formating disk again (NTFS) ) and the problem remains -
Explorer freezing when copying just a few simple files (no
long directories etc) across the domain. Again copying to
this new workstations is ok. mapping drive does not help.
Does not matter what the target system runs - can't copy
to XP nor 98 computers. Could this problem have anything
to do with my TCP/IP settings (DNS - metric 1 ) or
security on files (as after install - default used - all
users - full access). Or could this be a hardware
problem - ethernet card (worked fine a few days ago when
the computer was still running w95)

Would very much appreciate any help or suggestion .

thanks
