cant contact DC at logon

I have posted this in the XP forum as well but wanted to post here due to the
unusual nature of the problem.I have a bizarre problem. I have an XP Pro user
that needs to log on to a domain. All of a sudden it doesn't seem to be able
to contact the domain controller from the Logon screen. With correct
credentials for any user account, it alwayse returns the error for not being
able to contact the domain. If i try using the 'Log on to' and use a VPN
connection it also returns the same error. However, If i logon to the PC as
local administrator, i can see network resources and even authenticate to
shares. I can also use a VPN to authenticate through to the server. I used
the NLTEST tool and it also works.

It seems as if the PC, from the logon screen after Ctrl-Alt-Del, can't
access a DC. I can access this PC at this point as i can be connected to it
with dameware.

Any ideas?

Most likely this is a DNS or corrupt computer account issue:

1. Make sure the XP machine points only to the domain controller for DNS.

2. In AD Users and Computers, reset the XP's account. If that doesn't
work, try joining a workgroup; delete the computer account; create a new
one; and try rejoining the domain.
