Can't connect to the internet

E

Eddie G

I have a wireless network in my house and the home network is connected
and I can share files as well as print wirelessly across the network.
But for some reason I cannot get on the internet or log onto the email
server (via OE). I was able to do this fine and now I can't. The only
thing I did was update a CD Rom driver.

Any suggestions?

Asus P5W DH (using Asus WIFI)
E6600
2gb OCZ Platinum
Windows XP Pro

Thanks!!

No error messages...just the standard window that shows up when you
cannot connect to a web site.

What do you mean by "standard window"? Page not available?

What internet browser are you using?

What error do you get when you try to connect using Outlook Express?
Ifn the Outlook Express window which appears when you do a Send and
Receive make you have clicked on the Details button. You should see
a Tasks tab and Errors tab. You can copy and paste the Error details.

Yes, the standard "page not available" window.

With OE I get the box with my username and password. Nothing happens
when I click "ok". When in click cancel I get the box that says the
standard message that you get if you can't connect to the email server
of your ISP.

I'm not home right now so I can't copy the error message, but iirc it
is nothing out of the ordinary.

Try to repair the winsock, you may have damaged winsock after the download
or during the Installation of the CD update driver.
Did you scan for malwares and viruses on your computer to Eliminate those?.
Download the winsock fix from here:
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html
P.S is your SID (WAP key) is working and you can Access the Router Web page?.
HTH.
Please let us know your result.

Hi Eddie,
Glad it worked and you are welcome, come to how the Winsock can affect the
Internet connection in a very simple Explanation:
Say you need to send a Mail (post), what you do to get to the other end?.
You write the Message(word Docs, Excel docs..etc..) then put it in envelope
and hand it to the post Office ( which represent your computer), the post
office Employee a Postman who deliver this Post to the desired Location
(winsock)
the method which the Postman deliver is by Van, car, a Bicycle.etc.. is the
(TCP/IP).
That in a simple Scenario there are other things (layers, Protocols...etc..)
also happen/take palce in this Process but this just for the Winsock, if you
need it in Technical Descriptions here it goes:
