Can't connect to the internet

Have a laptop and desktop computers. I can connect to the internet on the
laptop using a cable modem but can't connect with the desktop. Have checked
that all the TCP/IP setting are the same but still no joy. Any ideas?

Sandy,

How are you connecting the two computers? Are you connecting one at a time? Or
do you have a hub connecting the two computers to the cable modem?

If you're connecting one computer at a time, you'll need to power the cable
modem off when switching the computer connected. Most cable modems identify the
computer connected by its hardware (MAC) address, and powering the modem off
then on forces it to initialise its MAC address connection list.

Your best bet, for both convenience, security, and speed, would be to connect a
NAT router to the cable modem, and both computers to the router.
