Can't connect to the Internet with IE 6

Mr. J

I have two PCs connected to a Netgear wireless router and a Verizon DSL
modem. PC A connects to the internet fine with IE and Firefox. PC B
will not connect to the internet with IE or Firefox however it can
access email via Thunderbird. PC B had surfsidekick 3 adware on it
but I removed it via the Add/Remove programs. It is also running
Microsoft Antivirus Beta which identified and removed any other harmful
viruses. It was running ZoneAlarm Personal Firewall but when I added
the latest update it loaded with the message "System Error" so I
uninstalled it and installed Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall. The
browsers are bringing back the message "Server not found" even with
Microsoft Antivirus and Kerio Firewall disabled. Any ideas?

Hi Mr. J :)

You did not mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the
following and see if it helps:

Removing some types of scumware can leave damaged Winsock keys in the
Registry. Some types of warez use the Layered Service Providers (LSP),
which are little bits of software that can be added or inserted into the
Winsocks. Outward bound data from your computer to a legitimate destination
on the Internet can be intercepted by an LSP and sent somewhere other than
where it is supposed to go.

In order to correct the mis-direction, you should download and run the
programs below that apply to your OS, which should resolve the connection
problem. If you are unable to download these programs from the affected
machine, you can download them from another machine and copy them to a
floppy disk or CD, copy them to the hard drive of your machine, then install
and run them.

LSPFix

(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.
