A few days ago, my Outlook suddenly decided it didn't want to talk to
earthlink. When I click on send/receive, it gives me the following error:

Task 'pop.earthlink.net - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The
connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact
your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I don't know what changed. I have tried stopping the virus check to resolve
the problem - no luck. I am running Windows XP; Outlook 2003.

Any help would be appreciated.

Denise, I had the same problem. Not sure if it's Earthlink or Microsoft, but
the fix was to re-enter your password at both the "pop" server setup and the
"smtpauth"server locations. In Outlook, go to Tools -> E-mail Accounts.
Put a dot next to "View or change existing e-mail accounts -> Click on Change
-> Retype the password in the password box -> Click on More Settings ->
Outgoing Server and retype the password over there as well. This was the
instructions given me by Earthlink tech chat. Worked for me. Good luck.

We're having exactly the same problem with a new Acer Aspire notebook,
pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium and Office 2007 Pro

I don't have my password saved. I type it in each time for security. Even
though this is a home computer, old habits die hard. Today it decided to
talk to the server for no reason that I can find. Who knows what tomorrow
will bring.

Glad to hear all is well. I never saved my password either, that is before
this "creepy" problem. Now it seems it won't let me NOT save it and keep
functioning. Seems other ISP users were having the same problem, so not just
an Earthlink issue or so it seems. Not sure what caused it, but glad it's
functioning again. Thanks for replying.
