Can't connect to other computer

i have 2 computers, one running wndows xp home and the
other running windows xp pro. the are both connected to a
linksys router/hub which i have my cable modem plugged
into so i can share the internet. both computers work fine
for accessing the interent, but when i setup a network, it
says it does it, but when i click on mshome it only shows
the one computer i am on and not the other one.
occasionally it will show the other computer but when i
click on it, it says it is not accessable, becuase i may
not have permission. I have enabled the guest account, and
enabled tcp/ip on both and on network type, put connected
through residential gateway (as linksys's website said to
do) but i still can't share files or see the other
computer for that matter. i have already gone to windows
explorer and enabled file sharing on all. i don't know
what else to do.

Make sure the browser service is running on each computer (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools - Services). Verify that the Computer Browser service is
started.

On the XP Pro computer, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel -
Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro,
you need to have SFS enabled.

For the XP Pro computer, make sure that the Guest account is enabled thru Local
User Manager (Start - Run - "lusrmgr.msc").

Do any of the computers have a software firewall (ICF or third party)? If so,
you need to configure them for file sharing, by opening ports TCP 139, 445 and
UDP 137, 138, 445, and / or by identifying the other computers as present in the
Local (Trusted) zone. Firewall configurations are a very common cause of
(network) browser, and file sharing, problems.

And please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address mining
viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a bit
