Trying to connect to a LAN connection wiith internet
sharing enabled.

It works fine with Windows ME but not with Windows XP.

I'm connecting with D-Link DMF-560TXD Direct Port PC Card.

I cannot find tech support for D-Link because it went
belly up. Has anyone else found a similar problem with
this card. Or is it a problem with Windows XP?

Thank you for your help,

-Daniel

Yeah, that's the funny thing. The XP Device Manager says
its working properly. Very curious. Also when we
installed ME to test if it was a software not hardware
problem we found it did work.

Only on XP does it not work.

They've dropped support for your particular unit, but I
can find nothing to indicate they're not alive and kickin'.

Have you installed XP Service Pack 2?

Regards,
Ben

Downstairs in a hotel lobby there's a hub (don't know
what kind) and they have a high speed connection.

You're supposed to be able to plug in an ethernet cord
and connect automatically as anyone that's part of the
LAN has shared internet connectivity.

When I plug in with Windows XP it doesn't even recognize
the LAN. It's like my cable wasn't functioning or
something but not quite.

The D-Link units glows green where its supposed to
indicating I'm connected to a LAN but the computer
doesn't recognize (you know 'x' on the lower right hand
where there's your connection indicator) and 'Local Area
Connection' disconnected when I view network properties.

Like I said the hardware profiles says its working fine.
I have all the latest drivers and service pack 2. I don't
know what to do? Should I just install ME again to get it
to work? It seems a bit drastic - but I do need to check
my email from the hotel.

Daniel,

sounds like a defective Ethernet adapter or a defective Ethernet
cable to me.

Obviously you forgot something I mentioned in the last
post. Both the ethernet adaptor and the cable were the
same when I switch to Windows ME and I was suddenly able
to connect. When I reinstalled XP however I lost
connectivity.

The problem only exists with XP.

Daniel,

sorry, overlooked that.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm for
a list of possible causes.
