Can't completely Install or Unstall SP2

When I try to install SP2 it never completes the
installation, (it get to 'Finishing installation'with the
progress bar about 50% completed). After leaving it
overnight, I restarted, the message 'SP2 did not complete
installation, use the add/remove programs utility to
remove it and try again', or words to that effect. I
have tried to uninstall it but it gets stuck at the exact
same place. I might try a system restore, does anyone any
other things to try??
