can't check option boxes

weird problem has surfaced in that, whenever an option
box comes up in Windows, the checks/ticks don't appear
over the boxes.

Anyone else experienced this and know what the fix is?

Paul, do a system file check if you have a WinXP CD. Start>Run type:
sfc /scannow Have the cd in the cdrom drive.

I'm having the same problem. It even occurs in Windows Media Player (for the check boxes that appear for the "copy CD tracks" selection).
