Can't change time zone

K

Kathy

Somehow all my XP machines have changed their time zones to Mexico time. When
I try to change them, only Mexico and South American time zones are shown in
the dropdown list and no map is displayed. The time zone was originally set
to US/Canada Central time, but was mysteriously changed. How can I set to
that zone? How can I fix this problem?

I only noticed this today because my PCs weren't updated for DST. The DST
update was installed last year.

Thanks.

Interesting - event log errors?
Are you up to date with all your SPs/patches?
Are you on a domain?

How do I check for event log errors?

Yes, I am up to date with all patches and updates. No, I am not on a domain.

Open your event viewer, silly. :)

Either start | run | eventvwr <enter> or find the shortcut.

Which you will find in Control Panel (CLASSIC view) under
"Administrative Tools"

I don't see anything relating to time zones in my event log. Is there
anything specific I should look for?

I really would like to find out what caused all the time zones and the map
to disappear from my PCs. Again, the only zones that show up are Mexico and
SA. Can anyone help??

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
