I used Safe Mode to remove the unknown administrator's password and changed
this account type to limitted user while create my own account as PC
administrator. I could now login this desktop and set all the Display
Properties for my account. Howerver, the Display Properties of the previous
Administrator (currently is Limitted User) cannot be changed and nothing
displays in its Start Menu. It stay the same when I change this account to
Administrator. Please show me how to solve this proplem

Hi, I got this info from reading these newsgroups. From my reading, you
should have left the original Administrator account alone. Its the Admin
Account that only shows from Safe Mode when the OS is XP Home. There are
some actions you may encounter, later during learning to use your OS, where
you will be instructed to use this "Main Administrator" account from safe
mode, to perform. When installing the OS and you are asked to provide a
password, leave it blank or input Administrator. Once the OS is installed
create whatever User Account with Administrative Privileges that you need or
limited user accounts as neccessary. Hope this helps.

You may find it faster simply to reinstal. You pushed
the ladder away after you had climbed up it. Every WinXP
PC needs an Administrator account to perform housekeeping
actions Limited Users are not permitted.

The reason your User Start Menu shows nothing is that you
put nothing there. The Settings & Documents wizard is designed
to compile personal settings from one user (e.g. your old Admin
account) and transfer them to another (your new User account.)

See whether you can use System Restore to reboot as at an
earlier date when the old Admin account existed. If so, you
can export Settings & Documents from that account and
import them into your new User account: and then keep the
Admin account because you will need it. (The Users wizard
lets you choose whether or not to show the Admin. account
at logon.)

WinXP is designed to be self-documenting (1) in the PC,
(2) on line. If you prefer a printed manual, the IDG (Dummies)
WinXP is good but those published by Que seem better.
