Can't 'Capture From Vido Device'

,I just got a new computer and I am not good at this stuff...
I have a JVC digital video camera (GR-DV800...?) and I am trying to transfer
the video from the camera to Movie Maker. I am pretty sure I have downloaded
all of the correct drivers etc. (at least that is what the Wizard said) but
when I click 'Capture From Video Device' it lets me go through all of the
steps until I get to 'Video Settings'. At this point I select "best settings
for my computer" or whatever, and I click next...
Then it pops up... the message "An interface has too many methods to fire
events from". The one time that message didn't pop up, my computer just
stayed on that screen for an hour while my cursor spun around like it was
doing something. I finally had to unplug the USB and restart the computer.
I'm sure this is all due to user error but I don't know what exactly my
grievous error is.
Help.

Movie Maker is made to work with Mini-DV camcorders like yours when it's
connected to the computer via firewire, not USB....

To use USB, you should use the software that came with the camcorder, and
then convert the file to something that'll work.... but it's best to get
yourself setup with firewire and use Movie Maker.

I have another question for you if you are still here...
I also have a DVR recorder that I have previously used for saving recorded
video from the cam corder. I made a DVD of the video footage on my DVR hard
drive and I am now trying to copy from the DVD into Movie Maker. Is that
possible if so, how do I do it?

I have been haveing same problem as Andra T , unable to capture from dvr to
movie maker when using usb cable. your advice to use a firewire cable should
end 12 months of frustration .
many thanks to PapaJohn.
