My friend called me last night with a problem that I
cannot seem to figure out. He has a Dell 4500 system with
XP Home using version 6 of IE. This is a home system on a
cable modem.
Now when he tries to browse he can get on an inital page
but if he tries to click a link to go to a page that may
open in another window it just freeze there.
He has no pop-up blockers that I can find but the other
windows will not open.
Also I took him to the Microsoft update site to update his
IE and other things and when he finally got to the screen
where it checks for downloads and asks you to say yes to
the security certificates he gets and error message saying
he does not have privlages to do this.
So I tried to get him there via the update page in the
Help section of XP home and there it told him he has no
internet connection. I know he does becaause he can browse
when clicking on the internet explorer.
I emptied the Internet Temp files, history files, cookies
and he ran a norton virus scan.
Any ideas what is going on here?
Thanks
