Can't boot XP from CD Rom

My CD roms ( CD Rom, rewriter, and dvd rom drives) all
work ok normally. I was attempting to repair windows via
the installation disk. However despite altering BIOS to
read from CD rather than IDE-0 it refuses to kick in any
of my three drives to look for the disk and gives me the
black screen offering safe mode, start windows normally,
last ggood configuration etc. Why is it not looking in CD
rom?

What Installation disk are you using?

I am not inferring any illegality on your part, but is the disc a genuine M$
hologrammed disc?

I have seen copies of the "Corporate Edition" and are not bootable CDs.

I have worked on PC's which were purchased with XP on but did not come with
a legal disc.

When you configure your BIOS to boot first from the CD-ROM drive, you
will probably see a timed out message appear that says something like,
"Hit a key within the next 5 seconds if you want to boot using the
CD-ROM drive". If you don't hit a key, the CD-ROM drive gets skipped
and the next boot device in the BIOS list gets tried.
