Can't boot off hard drive

I left my computer on overnight, as I usually do, and everything was
fine, but when I got up this morning it was in a pre-boot screen. I
tried to reboot. F10 didn't do anything, nor did F8, so I went into
the bios to check the boot sequence and the primary boot device was
the DVD drive, followed by removable media (USB) and then the
network. I am not particularly computer savvy, but shouldn't the hard
drive be in there somewhere? Did a virus do this and how can I fix it?

Go back into the BIOS and determine if the BIOS can see the hard drive. Did
you turn off the system and turn it back on again after a few minutes. You
may have suffered a disk crash and/or a thermal event.

BTW, now is to late to think about a back up plan. Good luck,

After I log into my computor and get to the icon page, I cannot do anything else. My mouse does not respond nor do any of the keys. I cannot okay any commands because the mouse will not move. I get the message IM32FAX.DIL NOT FOUND. Is there any thing that I can do to fix this?

If there is no CD/DVD in the DVD drive, it shouldn't hang up there.

Check the drive and see if there is a CD/DVD in there and if there is
take it out.

If you can't find the hard drive in the boot sequence, it probably means
that the BIOS can't detect the hard drive. This could mean that the
hard drive has failed, but it could also mean that a data or power cable
has to be reseated. in the case of the data cable be sure to check both
the drive end and the board end. Then just to be sure try different
cables. The cable to the CD/DVD drive seems to be working try that.
