Can't boot into safe mode

This is a very recent issue. I can no longer boot into safe mode. I can hold
f8 and get to the screen for choosing how to boot during start-up, but then
I cannot move to select safe mode or any other mode. Then the PC boots (30
seconds later) into regular WindowsXP.

I'm using a Microsoft wireless keyboard. It never used to present this
problem before.

Any ideas?

Try using MSConfig to get in. Start Windows, Run MSConfig, go to the
BOOT.INI tab, and select /SAFEBOOT. Choose Apply, and OK. Reboot.
