I built a new system recently (WinXP Pro SP2, Asrock AliveNF6G-DVI mobo, AMD
II 3500 cpu, 1GB 533 DDR II RAM and a 200Gb Maxtor SATA HDD) and it seemed
to work well for about a week. Then the keyboard started sticking, so I
replaced it.

Now, if I type out the numbers 123456789 in say, Notepad or MS Word 2003,
what actually appears on screen is 1234456667899 and when a number repeats
itself, as in the case of the 44 or the 666, the computer bleeps.

So I tried a third keyboard and it's still the same so I cannot believe it's
a keyboard problem - but just what can it be? I'm in the UK and yes, I've
set it up for UK operation.

TIA,

JellyBelly.

Your new processor wouldn't happen to be x64 would it? When I upgraded,
I had a similar problem with the mouse and keyboard. I updated all my
drivers and everything seemed to work nicely after that.

From Control Panel, open Accessibility Options. Check whether or
not some of its features, such as "sticky keys" are enabled. These
can also be inadvertantly set, such as by sitting on the shift key
or the control key too long.

Yes, it is an Athlon64. I'll give that a try. Thanks a lot,

JB

Cheers Ghostrider, I'll have a look.

Problem eventually solved - or more correctly, bypassed. It seems that there
is a problem with the PS2 socket that the keyboard plugs into, or the
motherboard itself. The workaround was to use a USB keyboard and that works
OK.
