Can't assign a Drive Letter

K

Kenneth

Howdy,

I had to re-format one partition of my two internal hard
disks (don't ask...<g>)

Now, in Windows Computer Management | Storage, the two disks
display as:

C: E:
35 gig 35 gig
Healthy Healthy

F:
35 gig 35 gig
Healthy Healthy

That is, the second partition of disk 2 has no drive letter
assigned.

There is an option to assign, or change the drive letter,
but when I try to do that, the newly selected letter appears
for only an instant, and then vanishes leaving me where I am
right now.

Might you have any suggestions for correcting this?

Sincere thanks,

Hello again,

I have a bit more information on this:

When I look in Logical Disks, it displays differently from
what I see in Disk Management.

In Logical Disks I see C:, E:, and I:.

But (right now) in Disk Management I see my four partitions
(2 on each physical disk) and only one has a drive letter
assigned, that is Physical Disk 1, Partition 1, and is
called "C:".

So I did succeed in removing the assigned drive letters (or
so I thought) and now things look like this:

Physical disk 1, partition 1 shows as C:
Physical disk 1, partition 2 shows as New Volume
Physical disk 2, partition 1 shows as New Volume
Physical disk 2. partition 2 has no name at all

all 4 display as healthy...

Thanks for any help on sorting this out,
