PowerPoint 2003 - When I set-up a command button I am unable to activate
Action Settings or Hyperlink to establish an action for the button. Is this
a program problem or am I just a dummy

You don't assign action settings to command controls, you set them to action
buttons. Make sure the Drawing toolbar is open, click "AutoShapes",
highlight "Action Buttons", then click the desired one. If you want to use
the general "Next", "Right", etc. choose them. If you want a generic one
that you can set to link to something, you can also use the blank one (top
left). You can right-click the button after setting the action and add text
to the button if you want.

Holler back if this doesn't make sense!

Glad to hear it. FWIW, you can assign action settings to virtually any
object. If you use something other than a built-in action button you might
want to make sure the "Highlight click" checkbox is checked on the Action
Settings dialog box. This way you know the object has some action tied to
it. This option is automatically checked when using an action button.
