I have a dialup internet connection. When I select -
control panel - network connections - and highlite my
dialup connection - on the left side under the heading of -
network tasks there are several choices - the bottom one
is - change settings of this connection (among other
things I understand this is where I select on or off for
the windows firewall). now here we go - when I click on
this line the only thing that happens is that the connect
to internet dialer screen appears - if I am on the
internet at the time I select it nothing happens. I have
run anti virus program - shredder and spybot to no avail.
this is probably a tough one - but thanks for any
sugestions

Right-click on the dialup connection, go to Properties,
Advanced, check "Protect My Computer . . ."

OK Mick I tried that - I am on the internet so nothing happens, same as the
other way. problem still here - but thanks anyway

Did you close Internet Explorer and the re-start it ?
There should have been a message that said it couldn't
implement the change until you re-started . . .

OK Mick I shut it down and tried again - it operates the same as I said in
the original post - when offline it brings up the dialer - when online
nothing happens - so I can do it either way - like you suggested or click on
the left panel on - change settings of this connection - thanks again

Who is your ISP? AOL? If so, they don't allow the Windows XP firewall

Its not that they do not allow the firewall. What they do not allow
is for a user to get access to the properties of their Dial up
Connection. No Access to properties means no access to the firewall.
