Hi,
I have 3 PCs running with Win98 and 1 running with
WIn2000. They are connected through a LAN. The Win2000
machine can see all 3 other machine but every time when a
Win98 machine try to access the Win2000 machine a Password
is required.

When I install Win2000 on that particular machine I did
not enable any password. I can even share the printer
which is connected to that Win2000 machine.

Message when try to access the Win2000 machine is:

Enter Network Password
Resource : \\PC_No1\\IPC$
Password:

*(PC_No1) is the name of the Win2000 machine
* They have been asigned to be the Workgroup
* The Win2000 machine drives are in Share mode
* No password has ever been asigned to the Win2000 machine

Please Help

.
In windows 2000 you need to setup a user name under users
and passwords in control panel that the win '98 machine
will use. for example if you wanted to give your windows
98 access to admin level on your windows 2000 machine (to
be able to write to the hdd) then setup a new account and
call it admin-1 with administrive rights, then give it a
password. When the Windows 98 machine loads and comes up
with the enter network user name, type in admin-1 as user
and enter the password that you have set, when you explore
the network then you will have access to the Win 2000 pc.
This took me about a month to figure out how to do this.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thank you very much Martin, I'll try it out this evening,
if I still have problems I'll come back to you, if that's
OK with you.

I don't know why we have to find it out the hard way!

Cheers

Simon
