Can't access secured sites anymore

G

Gillies

Greetings,

Using Windows ME with IE 6.0 SP1 has always worked fine for me. But since
several days, I cannot access any secured web sites begining with https://
protocol. Every other sites with normal http protocol is working just fine.
I have deleted my temp files. Any idea how to get rid of this anoying
glitch ?

TIA

My son's computer had the same problem. Symptoms were that he couldn't read
hotmail (https redirect to Passport to login) and Norton wasn't able to
download updates to virus signatures (apparently also done over https).
After a couple of hours playing around with trying different things
(including switching him from a wireless network card to a wired connection,
and following various IE incantations - emptying offline content files,
deleting cookies, resetting security settings, resetting SSL state, etc.) - I
finally decided to try uninstalling Norton Internet Security. His was the
only computer on our home network running Norton, others were running McAfee.
VOILA! All is good. I downloaded McAfee AV and installed that and he is
able to do htts now.

So... can't say it's definitely Norton's fault (obviously there are millions
of people running Norton that can access SSL sites) - but this worked forme.
