Can't access network via shared folders

S

Stavrogin

Hi:

I have a network of five computers. Up until today, all were working
fine and could read each other's shared directories.

Today, I restore one computer. Now, two machines (let's call them
ComputerA and ComputerB) cannot access the Shared Folders of the other
machines.

The other machines can see the Shared folder of ComputerA and
ComputerB. Similarly, I can ping all the other machines from either
ComputerA or ComputerB.

Also, when I go to run (//xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx//) I can access the other
machines.

But when I go to "My Network Places" --> View WorkGroup Computers, it
times out and gives me the following error:

"WorkgroupName is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to
find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found"

If Start - Run - "\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" works, but the computer can't be accessed
from Network Neighborhood ("not accessible ... path not found"), you could have
one or more problems:
# Browser conflict.
# Name resolution problem.

Take a look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" for the problem computers,
and for one or two of the other computers, or post same here and we can diagnose
the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely:

That's "ipconfig /all" for ONE computer. How about for the others? You don't
know where the problem really is until you diagnose the entire LAN.

Did you download browstat? Did you really read the entire article, including
linked articles? Did you read how to download browstat, and how to work with
the Path?

Chuck:

I seem to have got it working on my own. It looks like it was a simply
a matter of rebooting all the machines again.

Anyway, thanks much for your help... and thanks for the link. I ended
up skimming most of it so I missed out on the need to download the
Browstat utility.
