Can't access network through RAS

D

Daniel Zalcman

Hi, I was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this problem....

I have setup a W2K Server with RAS, as a standalone machine on the network.
The server itself can access the network (ie. files shares, etc) and the
Internet via a separate proxy server (NAT).

I can dialin to the RAS, and the client is authenticated fine (Active
Directory), and can access the Internet fine, but can't access any of the
network shares. The dialin client has been allocated an IP address by DHCP,
and I can ping the file server.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Cheers,

Daniel

can you ping other networking computers by ip? if yes, can you ping them by
name? if not, check the wins and dns settings on vpn client. also make sure
you have checked remote access server the properties of the vpn server.

Thanks Robert.

I can ping other PCs by IP, but not by name. I don't have WINS setup
anywhere on the network...is it necessary for this to work? The DNS
settings are correct on the RAS client.

Can anyone else shed some light please?

Cheers,

Daniel

it is better to have wins server. if not, you can create lmhosts on the
client.
